NHRA Insurance Package to Provide New $1 Million Pit Vehicle Coverage

NHRA announced today improvement in the insurance coverage provided to its valued members and racers.  A new program will automatically provide $1,000,000 of Commercial General Liability insurance on pit vehicles for each racer participant at NHRA Mello Yello and Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events. In addition, the excess medical benefit for NHRA members at standard member track events, Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events, designated contracted events and national events has increased from $525,000 to $575,000.

For national events, the pit vehicle insurance covers registered/entered racers and properly NHRA-stickered pit vehicles.  For Lucas Oil Series events, the pit vehicle insurance covers registered/entered racers.  The pit vehicle policy provides coverage for bodily injury and property damage claims made arising out of the operation of pit vehicles at NHRA Mello Yello and Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events.  Pit vehicles covered include ATVs, golf carts and motorized two wheel vehicles that are not competing in the event.

"Personal insurance may not provide any liability coverage when operating a pit vehicle at a race track. People are potentially exposed to significant liability if someone is injured or property is damaged by a pit vehicle. This program can provide insurance coverage people wouldn't otherwise have.  We’re very glad that we were able to extend this coverage to pit vehicles not only at our national events, but at our sanctioned Lucas Oil events also,” said Josh Peterson, NHRA vice president of racing administration.  “For just $20 added to the insurance surcharge when entering a National Event, we think providing $1,000,000 in pit vehicle coverage and a $50,000 higher excess medical benefit is a great bargain,” Peterson continued.

Insurance coverage referenced in this announcement is a general summary and limited to the specific terms, conditions, exclusions, and limits of the insurance policy.
