Upon being notified by an NHRA racer of a potential error in the application of the Automatic Horsepower Factoring System at the last two events held at the Las Vegas facility, the NHRA Technical Department reexamined the data from those two races. After a thorough review of the data, it was found that the method used for adjusting horsepower at the two Las Vegas races, held over the last two weeks, was not consistent with the method used for the past two years when calculating horsepower adjustments at other altitude-factored tracks. When the method used at other altitude-factored tracks was applied to the two recent events held at the Las Vegas facility, it showed that not one but three errors had been made. To correct these errors, the NHRA Technical Department is reversing the addition of horsepower made to three combinations. The NHRA Technical Department apologizes for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused our racers.
To further improve the Automatic Horsepower Factoring System, the NHRA Technical Department is working closely with the Sportsman Racers Advisory Council to revise the system for the 2011 race season.
