Tuesday Tech Question

Question:

I’m having a clearance problem with my SFI 30.1 flexplate shield.  Is it legal to cut and notch my steel flexplate shield so it will fit better?

Flexplate Flipper

Answer:

Flexplate Flipper,

No it is not.  In the 2013 NHRA Rulebook HOW TO USE THIS RULEBOOK section on page XV close to the front of the book it states “Under no circumstances may any certified product  be modified, altered, or in any way vary from the “as manufactured” condition.  Such practice is in violation of the SFI, Snell, DOT, etc. program, voids such certification and therefore will not be accepted by NHRA.”
