Tuesday Tech Question

Question:

I have a full bodied car that runs in the 9.50 range in the ¼ mile.  If I have a ribbon-type window net, does it need to meet SFI 27.1 and be replaced every 2 years?

Window Net Walt

Answer:

Window Net Walt,

With the speed that you are running, a current SFI 27.1 tag is only required on a mesh-type window net.  As stated on Section 20, page 30, of the 2013 NHRA Rulebook, under section 6:3, “For full-bodied cars running 7.50 (*4.50) to 9.99 (*6.39) or if a vehicle runs 135 mph or faster, a ribbon-type or SFI 27.1 mesh-type window net is mandatory unless otherwise specified by Class Requirements.”
