Quien Joins Thunder Road Raceway Park

Thunder Road Raceway Park has named Steven Quien Track Manager of the NHRA sanctioned quarter-mile dragstrip facility in Gilliam, La., just north of Shreveport.

Quien will begin his tenure on July 1, with more than 25 years of experience in dragstrip operations dating back to 1973 at Minnesota Dragways.  He then spent a number of years at Rock Falls Raceway, before holding positions at Grove Creek Raceway, Memphis Motorsports Park and most recently at Yas Drag Center, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.  He also has a background in building race engines and as a machinist.

“I’m extremely excited to get started and can’t thank David (Strong) and Hollis (Witherington) enough for this extraordinary opportunity,” said Quien.  “I look forward to growing the programs the track currently has in place along with the various programs that NHRA offers to their track partners, and expanding our reach into Shreveport and the surrounding areas as a community partner.”

Strong and Witherington recently purchased the facility that was built in 1998 and host weekly events ranging from street legal grudge/test and tunes to handicap bracket racing.  Both are in the construction business and own race cars themselves.

“I am pleased to see Steve moving into the Track Manager roll at Thunder Road Raceway,” expressed Trey Capps, NHRA South Central Division Director.  “I can only see  the track moving up from here with his dedication and guidance. We all look forward to seeing the track activities expand with Steve’s passion for the sport.”
