NHRA Names 2013 National Performer Award Champions

NHRA is pleased to announce the 2013 National Performer Award Champions: Todd Patterson (Stock Automatic), Paul Wong (Stock Stick), Robert Carpenter (Super Stock Automatic) and Gary Summers (Super Stock Stick).

For their impressive achievements attained over the course of the 2013 season, each champion will receive a gold Wally trophy at their respective divisional season-ending banquets. In addition, each champion is eligible to receive bonus contingency awards from their sponsors.

In Stock Automatic, Todd Patterson of Augusta, Kan. powered his 2012 COPO Camaro to the winner’s circle at the JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals, NHRA Kansas Nationals, Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Denver and the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd. He scored pivotal bonus points by running the furthest in his index at his hometown event, the NHRA Kansas Nationals in May.

In Stock Stick, Las Vegas native Paul Wong hit the jackpot this season driving two different cars and capturing wins at the NHRA Gatornationals, SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals, JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals and his hometown event, the NHRA Toyota Nationals. With four best-in-class wins, there was no stopping the Las Vegas racer. He also won the world’s most prestigious drag race, the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis.

Robert Carpenter of Niagara Falls, N.Y. had an epic season behind the wheel of his stout 1967 Camaro in the Super Stock Automatic class. He earned victories at the NHRA Gatornationals, JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals, Carlyle Tools NHRA Carolina Nationals, JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals and the Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals. Carpenter sealed the championship by running the furthest under his class index on a class-winning run determined by the third tie-breaker.

In Super Stock Stick, points leader Gary Summers edged out all of his challengers by piloting his 1985 Mustang to class wins at the NHRA Gatornationals, JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals, Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, Carlyle Tools NHRA Carolina Nationals and the tradition-rich Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals. The Franklin, Ky. native stole the thunder all season long with the best class index runs at all four events earning him valuable bonus points to lock up the championship. He also claimed the class championship title at the NHRA Gatornationals.
