The NHRA Technical Department has been working closely with chassis manufacturers, body manufacturers, teams and K&N on the development of a spec air induction system. This system will be mandatory on all cars participating in the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Pro Stock category.
The K&N mandated air induction system referred to as the NHRA Pro Stock Air Induction System (Part Number 100-8522) will consist of the following components:
· Throttle Body Adapter – P/N 088049
· Coupler; Pro Stock Air Induction Small – P/N 08665
· Inlet Duct; Pro Stock – P/N 05875
· Coupler; Pro Stock Air Induction Large – P/N 08641
· Air Induction Airbox; Pro Stock – P/N 05876
K&N is planning to ship the first production components late December.
An aluminum template used for the air Inlet holes required in front grill opening and an air inlet opening flange mounted on the inside of the grill opening for the seal on the grill opening to seal against will be available as part of the K&N System Package or can be purchased currently directly from Quarter-Max Chassis and Racing Components (309-343-7575). The Quarter-Max part numbers are: NHRA P/S Air Inlet Template (P/N 430021) and the Air Inlet Opening Flange (P/N 430020).
The air inlet cutouts must be located in the center of the front grill and located 2.750” +/- 0.250” from the top of the splitter to the bottom of the openings measured at the outside corners BEFORE THE RADIUS STARTS. Air inlet cutout holes may not be any larger than the NHRA accepted template.
Five Star Fabricating (262-877-2171) currently have Filler Panel kits available for both the Camaro (P/N 64130-35818) and Dart (P/N 64571-35818). The Filler Panels are used to cover holes in the hood which accommodated the previously used air scoops. Beginning early 2016 they will also have a universal cowl available which can be used on all body styles with the exception of the Camaro and Dart.
