The JEGS NHRA SPORTSnationals presented by Quick Fuel will showcase a collection of specialty events over Memorial Day weekend on the famed quarter-mile dragstrip at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky. Beginning Saturday morning and running throughout the day, racers will be striving to make the qualified fields that will then face off in eliminations for prize money, bragging rights and a trip to Saturday’s Winner’s Circle celebration.
Kicking things off on Saturday morning, fans will be treated to heads-up, wheel standing class racing in Stock and Super Stock that will feature the Tim Hebert Hemi Shootout for the popular ’68 Hemi Barracudas and ’68 Dodge Darts with upwards of 20 entries expected to compete.
“We wanted to give the racers a chance to compete in eliminations style racing in addition to the customary Sunday event eliminations”, said Jay Hullinger, NHRA North Central division director. “These specialty events are fun for not only the racer but it also gives fans that attend on Saturday a chance to see some pretty intense elimination round action as well.”
Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street competitors will battle in the Lucas Oil / K&N Filters Super Shootouts beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Qualifying for the 16-car eliminators will be based off Friday and Saturday time trials.
Racing action will culminate on Saturday evening with the 200 mph Racing RV’s Top Dragster/Top Sportsman Fast Four competition and the C-Tech Manufacturing Comp Fast Four two round shootout.
It is all part of the JEGS SPORTSnationals that returns to its original home May 27-29 for three full days of NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing.
