Tuesday Tech Question presented by Evans Coolant

I HAVE AN ORIGINAL 2013 ZL-1 CAMARO CAN I BRACKET RACE THE CAR AS IT IS FROM THE FACTORY WITH NO MODIFICATIONS IN ANY WAY?  IT SEEMS THE CAR MAY RUN QUICKER THAN A 12.00 IN THE QUARTER MILE. THIS IS WHERE I’M CONCERNED, I WOULD LIKE TO RUN THE CAMARO IN ONE OF THE SLOWER BRACKET CLASSES BUT I REALLY DON’T WANT TO CHANGE THE CAR FROM ORIGINAL SINCE IT’S A STREET CAR.  DOES THE CAR NEED TO BE OUTFITTED WITH THE SFI SEAT BELTS AND NHRA ROLL CAGE, ETC.?

ANSWER:

YOUR ORIGINAL CAMARO WITH STREET TIRES WILL BE GOOD DOWN TO 11.50 IN THE QUARTER MILE.  11.49 AND QUICKER WOULD REQUIRE A ROLL BAR, DRIVE SHAFT LOOP AND SFI 16.1 SEAT BELTS.   A 2010 OR NEWER HELMET IS REQUIRED AT 13.99.
