Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals Presented by Pennzoil to be contested on May 21-23 minus Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, and Super Gas

Due to significant rainfall at the track and the current forecast of additional weather systems leading up to race weekend, a majority of the sportsman racer pit areas of Houston Raceway Park will not be fit for use during the upcoming Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals Presented by Pennzoil.

In addition to the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series (Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock), the following categories will compete at the event in Houston May 21-23: Top Fuel Harley, Factory Stock Showdown, Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp, Top Dragster, and Top Sportsman.

Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, and Super Gas categories that were slated to compete at the event will be rescheduled for another date to be determined. Competitors in these categories looking for an alternative event, NHRA is hosting three events this weekend.

  • Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Atlanta Dragway: May 21-22
  • Southeast Division event at Atlanta Dragway: May 23
  • West Central National Open at Bandimere Speedway: May 22

“It’s a difficult decision to make for our sportsman racing community but unfortunately we are unable to safely accommodate adequate pit parking in the majority of our designated sportsman lots,” said track general manager Seth Angel.  “Mother Nature has forced our hand and we do not want to subject racers to subpar conditions at the risk of damaging their equipment and jeopardizing their safety.”

Additional details to follow regarding the date and entry process for the postponed portion of the event.
