The NHRA Contingency Program—A Partnership that Connects Racers and Manufacturers
The NHRA Contingency makes more than $10 million in contingency money available every year to racers!
The NHRA Contingency program pairs racers who buy parts with companies making and marketing products that win races. Knowing what wins on Sunday, sells on Monday, the NHRA uses its tech inspections as a data collection service. We track which drivers made it to the final round, what products they had, and which brands they were promoting through decals on both sides of their cars.
The NHRA Contingency program rewards racers with cash and participating manufacturers with race-proven exposure and the ability to test and develop products on NHRA racetracks everywhere.
Racers, we know what you do with the money you earn drag racing—you come back and drag race more.
Contingency partners, we know what you do with the money you make selling race car parts to NHRA racers—you innovate new products to make racers win more.
The NHRA has operated a contingency program dating back to the 1960s to connect the success of racers and manufacturers together on the drag strip. The NHRA wins when both racers and industry see success on our member tracks. And boy, oh boy, in 2024, that's going to be a lot of combined success!
Read on to find out how you can access the money available to NHRA racers just like you.

The NHRA Contingency program is the most potent marketing partnership in motorsports. It connects racers who buy parts with manufacturers looking to sell and market performance products. It offers the advantages of a passion-driven business-to-consumer relationship, with the long-term benefits of a business-to-business
Every weekend from February to November there are NHRA races across North America drawing hundreds of racers and cars together. The NHRA has deep roots in reaching these markets and racers, and uses the Contingency program to share our strengths with our partners. The NHRA Contingency program runs at all NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series national events, all NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional and regional events, plus the NHRA Summit Racing Series and the NHRA JEGS Allstars.
Partners can participate at the national level, the divisional level, the regional level — or all three.
Here’s How It Works
- Companies post (publicly announce) with NHRA that it pays racers who use their product and win or runner-up in an NHRA race class: $300 to win/$100 to runner-up at national events, and $100 to win/$50 to runner-up at divisional events.
- Racers buy and install the products that are posted. Racers install decals on both sides of their race car that display the products they are running.
- When racers win or runner-up, the NHRA Tech Department verifies the decals and products were present.
- After every race, the NHRA alerts participating manufacturers with a list of the racers who’ve won or runner-upped with their product.
- Participating manufacturers send payments to the racers to reward them for their success and partnership. NHRA and national media show racers with decals and products winning on TV, online, through social media, and in magazines.
- Racers and fans see firsthand what products work and win.
