Updates to Top Dragster and Top Sportsman in 2027

Based on feedback received from Top Dragster and Top Sportsman competitors across the country regarding field sizes, qualifying, and maximum dial-ins, NHRA will implement the following changes for the 2027 season.

Field Sizes

Field sizes will remain consistent with historical precedent, with each Division continuing to determine the field size for its LODRS events. For specific information regarding field sizes at individual events, please contact your Division Office or visit your Division website.

Maximum Dial-Ins

Beginning in 2027, the maximum dial-in permitted in Top Dragster will be 7.25, while the maximum dial-in in Top Sportsman will be 7.60. Competitors will not be required to run quicker than the maximum permitted dial-in in order to qualify for the field.

Rear Wing Mandatory

Beginning in 2027 a Rear Wing will be mandatory on ALL Cars competing in Top Dragster.

NHRA would like to thank everyone who participated in the recent competitor survey. The response and feedback were invaluable in helping shape these decisions, and we appreciate the time taken by racers to share their opinions. We look forward to building on the continued success of Top Dragster and Top Sportsman in 2027 and beyond.
